VW Caddy and research on vehicle autonomy

VW Caddy will be equipped with environmental perception systems, which will allow to increase the scale of research conducted at the university. The official handing-over of the vehicle was held today in the presence of Claudia Wintgen - Director of the Project, Technology and Commissioning, representing Volkswagen Poznan sp. z o.o. as well as prof.  Michał Wieczorowski, Vice-Rector for Development and Cooperation with Business and Industry and Krzysztof Walas, PhD plenipotentiary of the Dean of Faculty of Automatic Control, Robotics and Electrical Engineering for development and co-operation with business.

As part of the work, vehicle behavior control systems will also be developed depending on changing external conditions. In terms of perception, there will be further development of vehicle location methods, the construction of a map of the surroundings and the recognition of objects around the car. As part of the control, it will be possible to improve the methods of determining the optimal path of a vehicle, taking into account changes in the environment. Artificial intelligence methods will be used intensively in these works.

“Access to VW Caddy takes our research to a higher level, as it is possible to validate solutions on a real vehicle. The tests will be carried out on new facilities of the Poznan University of Technology - Kakolewo Campus ”- emphasized, Krzysztof Walas, PhD.
