The project of European University for Customised Education (EUNICE) was approved on 3rd July 2023 in the 2023 Erasmus+ call for European Universities. After three years of piloting and with the expansion of the alliance from seven to ten partner universities, the alliance will receive significant funding of €14.4 million to ensure the sustainability of the Consortium's activities until 2027.
EUNICE consortium was established in 2020 as an international alliance of 7 public universities, including: Poznan University of Technology (project leader), University of Mons (Belgium), University of Vaasa (Finland), University of Catania (Italy), University of Cantabria (Spain), Université Polytechnique Hauts-de-France (France) and Brandenburg University of Technology Cottbus-Senftenberg (Germany). In 2022, the consortium expanded by inviting 3 new partner universities: Polytechnic Institute of Viseu (Portugal), the University of the Peloponnese (Greece) and Karlstad University (Sweden).
In January 2023, the EUNICE Consortium presented a new project in the Erasmus+ call for European Universities, in which it successfully received EC funding. The consortium's common goal for the upcoming years is to provide students with unique and personalised learning pathways, promote knowledge exchange between staff, support interdisciplinary research and implement educational solutions that respond to global challenges while addressing regional socio-economic issues.
EUNICE’s focus on customised education and interdisciplinary approach stems from its role as a hub for regional ecosystems, one of the key feature of the alliance. Customised education plays a vital role in empowering regions by leveraging human capital, collaborating with business partners and responding to local development needs and capacities. On the other hand EUNICE also facilitates connectivity cooperation between European regions and the global community.
“We, at EUNICE, believe that together we can overcome the barriers that each of our institutions faces apart. Ultimately, our success will help to forge European communities better able to overcome contemporary social and economic challenges, and by extension create new solutions for Europe as a whole,” stated Prof. Teofil Jesionowski, Rector of Poznan University of Technology. which is the only Polish university being the coordinator of a European University.
